Maria Petruzzi, Nannò’s founder, talks about the reason why they decided to adopt Halopack tray by Boxmarche for their ready-to-eat dishes, based on the Mediterranean diet.
Nannò is an innovative food delivery service that offers a line of light dishes inspired by the Mediterranean diet. Crafted by their chefs according to traditional Italian recipes, they are designed to be quickly and easily reheated.
The philosophy behind Nannò is inspired by the warmth of home and the family care for the customer. The name comes from the Abruzzese dialect phrase “…nannò, vì qua che e’ pront a tavola!” – a common way grandmothers call their grandchildren to tell them that dinner is ready.
Nannò combines a deeply traditional approach, rooted in home cooking and typical Mediterranean dishes, with highly innovative solutions, using modern cooking methods and techniques. How did your project come about?
Our generation is characterized by a lack of time, which often leads people to neglect their health, particularly when it comes to food. The goal is to address the need for a healthy, tasty, and balanced meal that can be enjoyed at home or in the office, just as if it were freshly cooked.
You are very focused on promoting a healthy lifestyle and your dishes are prepared to retain the nutrients of each ingredient. Special attention is given to glycaemic indices, salt content, and the overall caloric intake of each dish. Among the services you offer is even on-demand consultation with a nutritionist. How do consumers respond to this healthy philosophy?
Our adventure started in 2016 to address the internal management of collective catering for the Leonardo Hospital Group by preparing single-serving vacuum-packed meals, cooked at low temperatures, to be served to patients. The On-Demand Nutritionist service was born from the expertise we gained in managing the healthcare line, to guide our customers through a specific nutritional journey. To simplify our users’ lives, we thought about how difficult it can be to follow prescribed nutrition plans when you are in the office, or you spend a lot of time away from home. What makes our service so beloved is certainly the human element. Unlike an algorithm on a website, our collaboration with the Leonardo Hospital Group allows us to connect the professional with the patient throughout his journey. The feedback we have received has been extremely positive, both regarding the quality and the service of the products.
In a society characterized by stressful rhythms, is there room for quality food?
“You are what you eat” is a sentence that has sparked a revolution in the scientific world over the last decade, and it has become a truth. Nutrition has gained importance, supported by scientific evidence, and it has transformed the way we understand health, also changing people’s approach to food. Our goal is to make everyone enjoy a healthy, balanced, high quality and tasty meal, as if it were freshly cooked, despite the lack of time.
Why did you choose to adopt the green Halopack tray for your dishes?
We have always worked towards reducing environmental impact through a targeted strategy.
The desire to replace polypropylene trays with sustainable packaging was deeply rooted but took quite some time to achieve. In fact, unlike other companies in the ready meals sector that use modified atmosphere packaging for food preservation, our choice to offer dishes without any added gases, using low-temperature vacuum cooking, had to face significant challenges during research. The machinery exerted strong pressure between the film and the trays, destroying almost all the models we tested. Boxmarche solved our problems. The heat-sealable Halopack tray made from recycled cardboard produced by Box Marche allowed us to continue our sustainability journey with a highly functional product. Unlike rigid polypropylene trays, we found that our users are much more likely to consume their meals directly from the Halopack tray thanks to its softness, thickness, size, and even design.
How important is packaging in communicating Nannò’s quality and values to your audience?
It is extremely important. It represents the culmination of a research effort aimed at combining our philosophy of environmental sustainability with the best method for packaging our dishes, while preserving their quality. The possibility of customization has been key in developing our client-oriented marketing journey at every stage, from order to delivery.
