About the company

Umani Ronchi is a winery in the region of Marche in Italy, known and appreciated nationally and internationally. Recently, it has been subscribed to the 34 most prestigious wineries in Italy in the American magazine “Wine Spectator”. The company, owned by the Bianchi-Bernetti family, has been producing high-quality wines with care and craftsmanship since 1957, knowing how to enhance the grape varieties that find their best expression in the lands of Marche and Abruzzo: Verdicchio and Montepulciano.

A new sparkling world

Michele Bernetti tells us how Umani Ronchi’s journey into the world of "sparkling" wines began, with curiosity, anecdotes, and more technical details. “The decision to make sparkling wines, which came about almost on a whim about 10 years ago, was inspired by a personal passion and curiosity for the typology. We started with just a few bottles, basically for private consumption. But over time public interest grew significantly and today we produce around 20,000-25,000 bottles per year, with room to grow a bit more. In the new winemaking cellar, we’ve planned a special area for ageing. The cellar is also equipped for disgorgement and capping so that we’re 100% autonomous.

The collection

The Metodo Classico collection consists of three prestigious labels: LH2, La Hoz, and La Hoz Rosé, produced in limited quantities and highly sought after in the market for their refined pleasantness. They also make the perfect gift to impress wine lovers and connoisseurs with class and elegance. The reference grape for the two Blanc de blancs is Verdicchio, with a touch of Chardonnay: while the Rosé is 100% Montepulciano. The use of base wines from different origins has allowed us to enhance the uniqueness of the terroir, specifically the best plots in the classic area of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, where we own about a hundred hectares. The Montepulciano, on the other hand, comes from the Conero area, where we have almost seventy hectares. The selection varies every year, depending on the climatic conditions, to identify the most suitable grapes.

Curiosities about names

The names of the three sparkling wines deserve a separate explanation. "Giuseppe La Hoz was a valiant general during the time of the Cisalpine Republic. Disillusioned with French imperialist politics, he decided to rebel and became the military leader of an uprising that spread across the Marche region. He was killed at just over thirty years old, between Osimo and Ancona." LH2, on the other hand, is a play on words that refers to the initials of the surname, but also an exclamation from an Australian customer who visited the winery. "At the end of a long tasting, after sipping our Extra Brut, he couldn’t help but exclaim 'Little Heaven!' We added the number two to represent the two grape varieties (Verdicchio and Chardonnay) that contribute to that sip of pleasure."

Party wine

An exclusive yet minimal packaging for a collection that lets the taste speak for itself. The bubbles take centre stage in the new graphic design of the labels and packaging, which accompany the sparkling wines in a bold, vertical, and elegant way, fitting for wines worthy of their names. The hot rose gold embellishments and thick screen printing give this paperboard project a refined look, perfect for a gift idea, especially since the new line was launched in time for the holiday season.
Boxmarche is proud to support Umani Ronchi as a technical partner in this sparkling new venture.
